COVE CAPTAIN ERIC FULLY FOCUSSED ON CLUB’S BID TO BEAT BERWICK IN PYRAMID PLAY-OFF FINAL

09/05/2019

LEGENDARY LEADER: Cove Rangers skipper Eric Watson has won more trophies than any other player in the club’s history.

COVE Rangers skipper Eric Watson has put any thoughts about his own future on the back burner to concentrate on the club’s quest to make history.
Cove and  Berwick Rangers are about to lock horns over two legs in the SPFL Pyramid Play-off final.
The first meeting is at Balmoral Stadium on Saturday, with return a week later, as Cove attempt to become the first Highland League side to earn promotion via the Pyramid Play-offs.
Veteran defender Eric has previously admitted he fears his days at Cove are numbered, the 37-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season.
A host of Highland and Junior clubs have already expressed an interest in signing Eric if he does leave Cove, who he has served with distinction for 12 years.
But Eric insisted his only concern right now is doing whatever he can to help Cove beat Berwick over the next couple of games.
“Everyone at the club has worked hard to get us into the play-offs and that’s what we are focussed on right now,” said Eric, who is the most decorated player in Cove’s history after winning six Highland League titles and picking up seven winners’ medals in the various cup competitions.
“We are determined to do all that we can to help Cove go one step further than last season, when we lost to Cowdenbeath in the final.
“If I do leave I’m hoping it will be in style , with Cove set up to play in League Two next season.
“I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to finish at a club that will always be close to my heart.”
