SPECTACULAR strikes from Liam Duncan and Adam Joji were enough to edge Cove Rangers past a hard working Huntly side at Balmoral Stadium.
Delighted Cove coach Gary Hake said: "They were top class finishes worthy of winning any game.
"Both players can be pleased with their efforts."
The game had been switched from Christie Park to avoid the freezing temperatures that would have called it to be postponed had that not happened.
And Cove made home advantage count, although they were a little fortunate to beat a Huntly side who probably went back north feeling they deserved to take at least a point.
Cove keeper Zack Ellis was forced to make a couple of decent early saves before they went ahead in the 25th when a sweeping move down the pitch ended with DUNCAN showing a great first touch to take the ball under control before sending a delightful lob over the advancing Huntly keeper from the edge of the area.
The second goal came just after the hour and it was a cracker.
JOJI collected the ball wide on the left then powered forward before showing a deft touch to lift a powerful 16-yard shot over the advancing Huntly keeper.
Huntly then wasted a number of decent chances before former Cove striker Matty McDONALD grabbed a consolation goal for them in the last minute.
Hake was pleased to get over the line with a very young side. Seven of the Cove squad also play at under-17 level and featured in Friday's Scottish Youth Cup win over Haddington Athletic.
"It's good that we were able to give the younger lads a taste of what is to come for them over the next couple of years," said Hake.
The Cove coach conceded Inverurie Locos, who are still unbeaten, are all but certain to win the league title but has challenged his players to do all they can to finish their campaign on a high when they play their final match, at home to Banks o' Dee, next month.
Hake said: "All credit to Locos, they've done fantastically well.
"But I want us to finish as high as we can in the table so will be looking for a positive performance against Dee."
