GRANITE CITY LADIES FC BECOME PART OF COVE RANGERS FC

Cove Rangers Football Club today announced that Granite City Ladies Football Club is to become their official ladies team.

The SWFL Division I North team will change their name to Cove Rangers Ladies FC at the beginning of the 2018 season. However, they will train and play at the new Balmoral Stadium later this season when it is completed.

Cove Rangers FC chairman, Keith Moorhouse, said: “Women’s football, one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, is well-established and becoming increasingly competitive in the North-east. We’ve been considering establishing a ladies set-up for some time now and Granite City are the perfect partner for us. They’ve achieved remarkable success in only one season and we will support them in achieving their ambitions through our brand, the use of our facilities and access to our support network.”

Only formed at the beginning of the 2016 season, Granite City Ladies were promoted to SWFL Division 1 North this season, after becoming the undefeated champions of Division 2 North.

Dave Easton, manager of Granite City Ladies FC, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our fledgling club and our players. After a tremendous first season, winning every single one of our league games, the girls have started the 2017 season in style with an impressive away victory in the SWFL Division 1 League Cup against Glasgow City FC Development last week and a 3-2 win over Falkirk in the League yesterday.

“We are looking forward to being part of Cove Rangers, with all the benefits this will bring, and to building on our success with the support of such a prestigious, professional and well-established club. We are incredibly grateful to our tireless volunteer committee members and sponsors who have got us so far in such a short space of time.”

With a squad ranging in ages from 15 to 26, Granite City Ladies FC are sponsored by Lister, Dron & Dickson and Granite City Events. They currently train twice a week at Northfield Academy and play their home games at Kaimhill.
