HIGHLAND LEGENDS IN THE RUNNING TO RAISE FUNDS IN HONOUR OF FORMER COVE RANGERS STRIKER MARTIN

03/07/2020

COVE Rangers midfielder Connor Scully says he’s delighted to be taking part in a 24 hour charity run to help former team-mate Martin Johnston raise funds for the ‘My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’.
Striker Martin enjoyed four successful spells with Cove Rangers between 2000-2014.
Now aged 42, Martin was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2018.
Since then, he and his family have organised various charity events in aid of the Doddie Foundation, which was created by former Scotland Rugby international Doddie Weir -  who was also diagnosed with the disease in 2017 - and raises money to help fellow sufferers and fund research into MND.
The latest is the Highland League Legends 24 hour charity run, which kicks off on Saturday July 11 and will involve a host of players and coaches who worked with and played against Martin during his career, which also included spells with Peterhead, Elgin City and Brechin City.
The star line-up includes Connor, former Cove manager and player Kevin Tindal, Alan Lyons, Ian Wilson, Craig Cooper, Russell McBride, Ryan Christie, Derek Milne, Steve Sim, James Milne, Stuart Sloan, Scotty Moore, Graeme Grant, Andy Reid, Adrian Thomson, Daniel Park, Leighton Flaws, Andy McCraw, Mike Beattie, Neil McRitchie, Mark Perry, Steve Dolan, Donny Adam and Keith Robertson.
Starting from noon on July 11 , each participant will be sponsored to run at home for one hour each, with the marathon event due to conclude at noon on the Sunday.

Connor said: “Martin was still the star striker at Cove when I first joined the club as a youngster.
“He is a great bloke and it’s a privilege to have been invited to help him raise money for such a good cause.
“All of us who will be involved are really looking forward to it.”
Cove Rangers will make a donation to the fundraiser and would like to applaud all of those who are taking part.
